The original land was granted to George Augustus Robinson, ‘The Conciliator’ and several of the buildings that he constructed are still standing today. Both apartments are in the stables at the rear of the cottage.

 The fully self-contained, brick cottage is located in the garden of Werndee, an historic Hobart house built in the early 20th century. The apartment sleeps up to two people in one double ensuite bedroom and has a fully equipped kitchen. Guests are invited to pick their own herbs and citrus fruit from the garden.

Bernard and Matty Ludeke dreamed of the Motel Mayfair in 1967 when they bought the original house at 17 - 19 Cavell Street West Hobart. The property was somewhat run down having previously been used as a guest house. The couple lovingly restored the house and then added the motel units we see today a few years later.
